For many modern cars, we can install the “Anti-theft mode“:
- No external devices are required, everything is done inside the ECU firmware.
- The Can Bus UDS/CCP protocols are deactivated, so it is not possible to unlock it via the OBDII port.
- Individual 4-digit unlocking code
The only way for a thief to deactivate this protection is to install a new ECU, which takes a lot of time.
how to activate it?
There are actually two different Anti-Theft modes. The first one is the Fast Mode, which will be automatically activated every time you leave the car. To unlock it, you have to input a 2-digit security code. The second mode is the Advanced Mode, which requires a 4-digit security code.
Fast Mode
Bring the car to a stop and turn the ignition on.
Press DOWN and hold the cruise control set button for approximately five seconds before releasing it.
The indication on the oil temperature scale rises up to the seven mark.
After the ignition is turned off for more than 40 seconds, the voltage from the two ECUs drops, which requires an unlock process in case the Fast mode is active.
These 40 seconds are especially useful if you have a manual transmission and accidentally stall the engine by releasing the clutch pedal too quickly.
I intentionally input an incorrect code, triggering what we call the advanced mode.
Advanced mode
You can also activate the Advanced Mode by pressing and holding the Set button UP until the seventh mark, and then releasing it.
To Deactivate it you have to enter a four-digit security code.
In the event of multiple failed attempts, you must turn the ignition off and wait for a minute. This measure is implemented to prevent brute-force attacks.
