Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio are great, reliable cars, but they have one common issue (really, it’s with their IHI turbos) that we were the first to point out a couple years ago: the wastegate rod wears out over time.
Because of this wear, the turbo lag gets worse and worse, until around 80,000–120,000 km, you get the trouble code: P0248 – Turbocharger/Supercharger Wastegate Solenoid ‘B’ Range/Performance.
After that, the engine goes into limp mode and loses a lot of power.
Why “B” solenoid, or the Slave bank? Because the Master bank (incl. the right turbocharger) turns off at low speeds and RPM. It’s called Half Engine Mode (or in German, Halb Betrieb Modus).
Fix for P0248: Take the engine out of the car, replace the turbos or fix the wastegate rods, then install the engine back. The job takes 2–4 days.
We’ve got all the parts in stock, and most important, tons of experience. Price: €3,800 all-in, including gaskets.
