E85 fuel is made up of 15% gasoline and 85% bioethanol.

Compatibility

Modern seals and rubber parts are rated for E85 use. Based on years of experience, we and our clients have seen zero degradation or fuel-related failures. With our Multimap firmware and TuningHost mobile app, you can switch between fuel types and adjust a variety of performance settings on the fly.

Pros and Cons

It’s enough to say that Koenigsegg runs on E85 to get peak performance from their hypercars.
The Koenigsegg Jesko is a 1.600 hp hypercar, achieved when running on E85 biofuel, utilizing a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. It delivers 1.280 hp on standard petrol
However, there are a few minor downsides.

Disadvantages:

  • Approximately 25% higher fuel consumption.
  • Firmware must be optimized to use E85.
  • Cold starts are worse, so starting a car at -10C is not an easy task.
  • Hard to get it in most countries.

Advantages:

  • Up to 20% more power and torque.
  • Lower price
  • No carbon build-up
  • Knock protection
  • Aggressive exhaust sound
  • Intake Air Temperature (IAT) and Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) are much lower.
  • Lower CO2 emissions

E85 Calibration

Since E85 has a different stoichiometric ratio, the air-fuel mixture (AFR) must be adjusted accordingly. To prevent a lean condition, the fuel injection quantity is increased by approximately 30%. Only through this adjustment does the engine reach its optimal lambda ratio.

A decisive advantage lies in the knock resistance of E85: this allows the ignition timing to be significantly advanced. By advancing the ignition, the engine generates noticeably more power and torque, while the exhaust note gains a heartier, sportier character.

Ethanol Content Test

Fill a transparent container with approximately 30% water and 70% E85. Shake thoroughly and let it rest for a few minutes. The ethanol will bind with the water and settle at the bottom, while the gasoline will float to the top. You will be able to clearly see the separation line between the water-ethanol mix and the gasoline.
